CAA Announces “An Artistic Discovery” Award Winners

The Cooperstown Art Association is proud to announce the 6 Award Winners and 6 Honorable Mentions from “An Artistic Discovery 2011” which is on display through March 25th in Gallery A. This year’s jurors were Dianne Kull of Cooperstown, William Schaeffer of Fly Creek and Martha Sharer of Cherry Valley. “An Artistic Discovery” is an annual Congressional art competition for high school students sponsored by Congressman Richard Hanna and administered locally for Otsego County High School students by the Cooperstown Art Association. The main objective of the competition is the encouragement of ongoing creativity in young artists, especially during the times when budget constraints may interfere with the availability of local arts-in-education programming.

The six students chosen will display their work in the Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institute, School of Art Gallery located at 1200 State Street, Utica NY. They will be exhibited alongside the winners from the other counties within the 24th Congressional District which include all or part of Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Herkimer, Oneida, Ontario, Seneca, Tompkins and Tioga counties. The exhibit will run May 11-18 with an awards ceremony to be held Saturday, May 14 from 11am – 1pm. The Otsego County winners are Stephanie Loucks of Cherry Valley – Springfield Central School with “Mallory V.”, Emily Wilmot of Cherry Valley – Springfield Central School with “Out on a Whim”, Ann Cannon of Cooperstown Central School with “Cat” and “Windsprint!”, Cam Hetu of Cooperstown Central School with “Saturated Disposition” and Amanda DePhillips of OAOC BOCES and Oneonta High School with “Untitled”.
