Calling all Artists!!! Upcoming Juried Shows!

Attention Artists! The CAA announces two upcoming juried shows, the 20th Annual Regional Art Exhibition, “Essential Art” and the 76th Annual National Art Exhibition. Our 20th Annual Regional Art Show, “Essential Art,”is being juried by Carol Ann Henderson and Jane Sapinsky. Carol Ann Henderson is a fine artist & published illustrator who has shown her watercolors & large

scale oil paintings in galleries from Cape Cod to the Napa Valley. She is a former product designer for Hallmark Cards, & has licensed reproduction rights to her fine art with companies throughout the greeting card industry since the 1980’s. She is now the sole producer of The Carol Ann Henderson Fine Art Collection greeting card line, & the founding publisher of Brilliant Minds Press. Jane Sapinsky is the Executive Director of Cherry Valley Artworks, an organization she helped found seven years ago. In that time Artworks has become a respected member of the Otsego County arts community sponsoring The Cherry Valley Sculpture Trail, The Cherry Valley Kite Festival, Theatrical productions, art classes, concerts and more. Artworks is presently engaged in rehabbing the Star Theater and the former Village Hall building in Cherry Valley into an arts & performance center. Ms. Sapinsky was formerly a writer & photographer in New York City. Her work has appeared in magazines, books & advertisements around the world.

The Regional Show is open to artists 18 years of age and older who reside in New York State and now offers $2000 in prizes. The works of art themselves will be juried; no slides will be accepted for this show. The delivery dates are Friday and Saturday, April 29 & 30, 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. The show runs May 6 through June 3 with an opening reception on Friday, May 6 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m.

Summer would not be the same at the CAA without the National Juried Exhibition! This year will mark our 76th! This year’s jurors are James Cox and Mary Anna Goetz.James Cox is known nationally as a veteran art dealer, appraiser & lecturer. For more than 35 years he has promoted new talent, written catalogues, organized shows & artist’s estates, & advised collectors and institutions on acquisitions & sales of artwork. 20th Century American Art is the specialty of the James Cox Gallery at Woodstock, NY. From 1976 until 1990 Cox served as executive director of the Grand Central Art Galleries, in Manhattan, founded by John Singer Sargent. In 1985 James Cox met & introduced to the western art world, 5 members of Beijing’s Central Academy of Fine Art. In 1989 Cox organized the first Soviet-American art conference “Art Most” at the Tretnakov Museum, Moscow. In 1999, Cox organized a publicity & marketing campaign in support of “The Leonardo da Vinci Horse” in which 2 bronze horses were created using Leonardo’s drawings. One horse now resides in Milan, Italy, the other is in a sculpture park in Gran Rapids, Michigan. Whether organizing exhibitions, serving on juries of awards or overseeing large fundraising art auctions Cox brings a lifetime of experience and a widely respected “eye” to each endeavor. “It all begins with aesthetics” says Cox “and I really cannot see an end to this journey. I hope to make my greatest discoverey in my most senior years…we shall see.”

Mary Anna Goetz was born in 1946 in Oklahoma City where she began her art studies with her artist parents, Richard & Edith Goetz. After earning a BFA from Oklahoma City University, Goetz studied at the Malden Bridge School of Art in upstate NY, Cape Cod School of Art in Provincetown, MA, & The NY Academy of Art in New York City. Goetz’s work represents a continuation of the American landscape tradition with a special focus on New York City, the Hudson River Valley & the art colony Woodstock, NY where she maintains her studio. She is also included in numerous corporate & private collections including Union Pacific, the Union League Club, Hudson River Club, White & Case & the Professional Golf Association. Exhibitions of Goetz’s work have been held at galleries throughout the country including Grand Central Art Galleries, NY, Howell Gallery, Oklahoma City and Newman Galleries, Philadelphia. A technique book written by Goetz, Painting Landscapes in Oils was published in 1990 & in 2006 JCG Productions released a DVD/Video titled A Field Guide to Landscape Painting. Goetz is a faculty member of the Woodstock School of Art & maintains an active teaching schedule. She is a member of the National Association of Women Artists, & the National Arts Club.

The National Exhibition accepts original work in all fine art mediums; no commercial reproductions or crafts will be accepted. To enter this show, artists must send slides/CDs of their work. The slide/CD deadline is May 16. Possible $3500 in prizes will be awarded. The show runs July 15 – August 19 with a Preview Party on Friday, July 15from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m with awards being presented at 6pm.
