Once the warm weather starts hitting us, we’re all so busy it seems we need to be in two places at once, and it’s no different here at Square Circle Press. Here’s two upcoming events with our authors taking place April 17th, one in the Capital Region and one in the Leatherstocking Region.
Book Launch & Exhibit Opening

Oneonta’s Forgotten Gem
by Jim Loudon

Sunday, April 17, 2011
2:00pm – 4:00pm

Greater Oneonta Historical Society History Center, 183 Main Street, Oneonta, NY

If you’re in Otsego County on Sunday, the Greater Oneonta Historical Society will open an historical exhibit on Electric Lake in conjunction with the book’s official launch party. The exhibit features a diorama created by Jim Loudon, as well as a mural painted by the author. The event is free and open to the public, and will include refreshments and a book signing by Jim Loudon. Vintage postcards featured in the book, reprinted by Square Circle Press, will also be for sale. The exhibit runs through June 18.

Smith’s Tavern

Voorheesville, NY

If you’re in the Albany area this Sunday, the annual Poet Laureate Contest takes place at Smith’s Tavern. The event is sponsored by the tavern and the Sunday Four Poets. This year’s entrants have already been selected, but the contest is open to the public. Smitty’s bar and restaurant, known for its fantastic pizza and fine beer selection, is open for business. Live music will be played during intermission, so stop in to hear some great poetry, eat some good food, and listen to some outstanding music. Books from the 2010 contest will be available for purchase at the event.

Busier than ever

Obviously we can’t be in two places at once, and I assume you can’t either, but you should try to make it to at least one of these fun events. Because of the earlier scheduling, I will be in Oneonta on Sunday, and I am looking forward to the exhibit on Electric Lake. (But I sure do wish I could be at Smitty’s too …)

The Electric Lake book is just the most recent example of the many interesting manuscripts I’ve received at Square Circle Press. I am having a hard time keeping up with them! But stay tuned; Upstate New York is a treasure-trove of fascinating history, and I can’t wait to bring you more book titles from the talented writers and historians who call New York "home."

Thanks, as always, for your support.
