ECO-BULLETIN FROM OTSEGO COUNTY CONSERVATION ASSOCIATION

May 3, 2011: Vol. 4, No. 8

EMPIRE HOUSE TO DONATE PARTIAL DRINK PROCEEDS TO “UP THE RIVER” FUNDRAISER:Nineteen dedicated OCCA supporters have been marooned for a good cause, each with the goal of raising $1,600 for new paddles to help them make it back to shore. Figuratively, that is. In an effort to raise funds toward countywide programs to protect and preserve the environment, OCCA Board members and volunteers have been “set adrift” in the middle of the Susquehanna. These Board members and volunteers are e-mailing friends, family members, and business colleagues in hopes of being “bailed out.”

On Thursday, May 5, The Empire House in Gilbertsville will generously donate $1.00 from every drink sold to the Otsego County Conservation Association’s “Up the River Without a Paddle” fundraiser. Empire House is located at 32 Marion Avenue, Gilbertsville. For information, call (607) 783-2859. Dinner Hours: Wed. & Thur. & Sun. 5-9pm, Fri. & Sat. 5-10pm. Bar hours: Wed. & Thur. & Sun. 5-11pm, Fri. & Sat. 5pm-2am.

All proceeds from the “Up the River” fundraiser are to be used to implement OCCA-sponsored programs and initiatives. For instance, $10 could pay for one riparian tree in a compromised watershed; $50 could harvest 25 pounds of invasive water chestnut; $75 could stock 50 walleye in Otsego Lake; and $350 could send a middle-school student to DEC Environmental Education Camp. To “bail out” the OCCA Board member or volunteer of your choice, visit http://occainfo.org/documents/OCCAUptheRiverWithoutaPaddle_000.pdf. This PDF provides a link to the individual web pages for more information and online donations.
