This concert is a fund-raiser to support environmental groups working to stop shale gas hydrofracking in both Otsego County as well as all upstate NY. Shale gas fracking is a controversial fossil fuel extraction which uses poisonous and carcinogenic chemicals, turns billions of gallons of pure water into toxic waste, and creates endless opportunities for toxic waste accidents and environmental destruction. As long-time New York state residents, Levon Helm and Arlo Guthrie understand the risks and are sympathetic to the cause. Since November 2010, Ommegang has been on the leading edge of upstate businesses saying “No to Hydrofracking.”
