Meet The Author of The Farmers’ Museum’s New Book "The Empire State Carousel" on Saturday, May 28

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (05/19/2011) — On Saturday, May 28, meet author and creator of the Empire State Carousel – Gerry Holzman – during a special book signing being held to introduce The Farmers’ Museum’slatest publication "The Empire State Carousel." The new, 128 page book chronicles the fascinating story of the Carousel from start to finish. Mr. Holzman will be on hand to personally sign your purchased copy from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Carousel pavilion. The book will be available through The Farmers’ Museum Store and online at beginning May 28.

Gerry Holzman became a professional woodcarver in 1970 after studying the trade in England under renowned master carver Gino Masero. Holzman has been restoring carousels since 1976. He has restored over 75 works of art from antique carousels and has created approximately 200 pieces of original carousel carving.

Over the course of two decades, Holzman supervised the production of a full-size operating merry-go-round based on the history and culture of New York State. The carousel featured the work of Holzman and over 1000 other craftspeople from across New York State. In 2005, Holzman gifted the Empire State Carousel to The Farmers’ Museum in Cooperstown, where it opened to the public in 2006.

Holzman has also created work for such diverse clients as Disney, the South Street Seaport, the PennClub, and the Cunard Lines.

The book signing is part of the Museum’s "Family Fun" Weekend which also includes the unveiling of a new carousel animal, free rides on the carousel, free admission for kids 12 andunder, and much more. For information on this event, please visit
