HAGER CELEBRATION DINNER INVITATIONS BEING MAILED

OCCA A CO-SPONSOR OF WILDFLOWER WALK AT ELMWOOD

HAGER CELEBRATION DINNER INVITATIONS BEING MAILED:On Friday, July 8, the Otsego County Conservation Association will host a dinner honoring Susanna and Lou Hager at The Otesaga Resort Hotel, Cooperstown. This event recognizes the important role played by the Hagers as co-chairs of OCCA’s successful Otsego Lake Challenge Campaign and as long-time stewards of Otsego Lake. Invitations will be mailed next week to all OCCA members and others. If you would like to receive an invitation – or make sure we have your correct address on file – please e-mail admin. Thanks to the Susanna and Lou Hager Matching Challenge Grant, the Hagers were integral in the success of the Lake Challenge. Since 2008, Lake Challenge funds have supported more than $300,000 in major Otsego Lake and Upper Susquehanna Watershed initiatives, including the septic system management plan, zebra mussel control, boat inspections, interns for lake research, riparian buffers, walleye stocking to control the invasive alewife, barnyard water management projects, lake monitoring, and public education. Dinner proceeds will help ensure the continuation of these efforts, which are essential to water quality protection, in 2012 and beyond.

OCCA A CO-SPONSOR OF WILDFLOWER WALK AT ELMWOOD:The Butternut Valley Alliance will host a wildflower walk, “Ephemerals and Edibles,” on Sunday, June 5 from 1:30-5 p.m. at “Elmwood” on Peet Road, one mile south of Morris. Participants will identify early spring flora and enjoy outdoor sculpture, with a potluck picnic at 3:30 p.m. To register, call jack.maier. Other co-sponsors include New York Flora Association, Otsego 2000 and America the Beautiful.
