American Red Cross to Present Hall of Fame

with Award for Helping Patients in Need

— Presentation to be Held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 20 at Museum

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – The American Red Cross and the National Baseball Hall of Fame are a winning team when it comes to helping save hospital patients’ lives.

2011 marks the five year anniversary of the blood drive program at the Hall of Fame. Each summer, when blood donations are needed most, the Hall of Fame steps up to the plate by running two blood drives. Not only do Hall of Fame employees donate blood, they ensure community members and guests have the opportunity to donate as well.

“Since 2007, the National Baseball Hall of Fame has generously donated 446 units of blood, and since each pint could help up to three patients this means 1,338 lives may have been helped thanks to the Hall of Fame’s commitment,” said Donna M. Morrissey of the American Red Cross Northeast Division.

The Hall of Fame participated in the American Red Cross Life Share Program, which encourages blood drive partners to work toward certain goals based on their number of employees, students, members, etc. Blood drive partners are recognized for achieving Silver, Gold and ultimately Platinum levels of success. For the fifth year in a row, the Hall of Fame has achieved Platinum, the highest level of Life Share recognition.

The presentation to honor the Hall of Fame’s commitment to the American Red Cross will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 20, at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
