Cinderella, Science, Cooking and more all Summer at the Canajoharie Library

CANAJOHARIE, NY—Travel around the world with the Canajoharie Library! Summer reading registration for kids and teens starts on Thursday, June 23, 2011. Our kick-off party with Melvin the Magnificent and his sidekick Hocus Pocus will be held on Tuesday, June 28 at 6pm

For children toddler age – fifth grade explore “One World Many Stories” with tons of inventive library programs. Come check-out our selection of new books, and the new creative play section of the children’s library. Stop by the library to register and record time spent reading over the summer to win tons of cool prizes. Some of the free programs you can look forward to include: an International Potluck Dinner, Cinderella Stories from Around the Globe, Library Amazing Race, and Science in the Library.

“You are Here” at the library with our award winning Teen Summer Reading Program (just completed 6th grade-age18). Some of the great programs we have planned include: Spa Day where you can make your own bath products, Teen Iron Chef, a Hunger Game Party based on the popular book series (and soon to be motion picture), and Fused Glass Suncatchers. Register at the library, and record what you are reading all summer long and you could win cool prizes including gift cards, t-shirts, arts and craft supplies, and more.

Research has shown that children who continue to read during the summer vacation perform better in the fall when school resumes. Summer reading programs make educational reading activities fun and appealing to young people.

Summer Reading is graciously sponsored by the Canajoharie-Palatine Chamber of Commerce, Children’s Aid Association, Library Services and Technology Act, Mohawk Valley Library System, Price Chopper Supermarkets & the Golub Foundation, and Stewarts Shops.

Participants are urged to register early as space in many programs is limited and fill up quickly. The Canajoharie Library is located at 2 Erie Blvd., Canajoharie, NY. For additional information including a full schedule of events, contact the library at 518-673-2314 or visit us online at http://www.canajoharielibrary.org.
