Cooperstown Lakefront Concert Series Kicks off July 5th

— A variety of music every Tuesday evening in July and August

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – The Cooperstown Lakefront Concert Series kicks off its 7th Season as the scenic Lakefront Park will again host the venue for nine grand musical performances. Area bands and soloists will perform a wide genre of music. The family-oriented concerts, sponsored by the Village of Cooperstown Parks Board, are showcased on the historic bandstand each Tuesday night in July and August at 7 p.m.  Bring a lawn chair, blanket and your dancing shoes in an activity the entire family will enjoy on a Cooperstown Summer evening. There is no charge.

New addition this season and leading off on Tuesday, July 5 is Compass. This jazz quartet was born in the early 70’s in Oneonta, NY. and, now after 40 years, is doing it all over again. They’re back on the road, performing in concert settings throughout New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Compass is “jazz in every direction!.” Compass performances are multi-directional, displaying a diverse variety of jazz compositions to include original material, along with tunes performed by the great jazz masters. July 12: Cooperstown Community Band – Celebrating 150 years
The band, under the direction of Julie Solomon, has been entertaining visitors and residents of Cooperstown and surrounding communities since the Civil War. Performances include Patriotic marches, Broadway show tunes, and other favorites. Entirely a volunteer organization, the group is proud to continue its tradition of performing at Lakefront Park.  Also join them at the Otesaga Hotel every Wednesday during July & August at 8 pm.
July 19: My New Obsession– –  new this season  

This Norwich-based band has an eclectic repertoire that mixes classic rock with modern selections that keeps every crowd dancing and singing.  More than your average rock and roll band, MNO  performs music that makes you say “Oh yeah, I remember that one!” and gets you on your feet.  Something for everyone!

 

July 26: The Dependents – new this season

This three piece band is composed of teenagers from Fort Plain.  Jocelyn Arndt (16) provides vocals and keys,  Christian Arndt (14) Plays guitar and sings background and Evan Searles (13) plays the drums. Their sound is characterized by sweeping vocals, powerful guitar and classic rhythms.  The Dependents popularity has grown since they originally got together and they now regularly play for charity and for hire across Otsego, Montgomery, Fulton and Hamilton counties. 

August 2: Second Time Around – new this season

Come and listen to the swinging sounds as this 15 piece band plays songs made popular during the “big band era” right up to the present. Enjoy songs like In the Mood, Saint Louis Blues, Moonlight Serenade, That’s All,  Night and Day, It Don’t Mean A Thing, and Sing, Sing, Sing, which were made popular by musicians Glenn Miller, Cole Porter, and Duke Ellington. They have performed at various events in the area, including the Dolgeville Violet Festival, Fort Plain on the 3rd of July Celebration, and Canal Days in Little Falls.  This swinging group of talented musicians will provide an evening in entertainment for the whole family.

 

August 9: Cooperstown Community Band returns – Celebrating 150 years

August 16: Fritz Scherz from Fritz’s Polka Band – new this season

Fritz Scherz, bandleader of the Jagermeister-sponsored, Fritz’s Polka Band hails from Verona, NY and performs an eclectic mix of tunes on his accordion and sings, too. Fritz won the 1989 National Accordion Contest in Gibbon, MN and has performed alongside some famous musicians, such as: Glen Burtnik (formerly of STYX), Charles Giordano (current accordionist/pianist/keyboardist for Bruce Springsteen), Steve Augeri (former lead singer of Journey), and many more. August 23: Bourbon & Branch – new this season

A mix of rock, country, folk and blues, this well known group of local roots musicians dazzles and delights.

 

August 30: The Tweedlers

These fellas from the New York City area are a lot of fun! They’re, a unique acoustic trio with a distinctive sound and energy that enthralls their audiences. Rarely would you find a group of artists whose choice of music would appeal to so many different people. The young, the old, the tall and the small will be singing all day long, after their first Tweedler show. Whether Eric, Russ and Jon are harmonizing on an old waltz, a western swing, some classic country, rock, or songs of their own, you’ll wonder if your old favorites ever sounded so good!

The Village of Cooperstown purchased Lakefront Park in 1936 and expanded it by an additional purchase in 1961. The 2.6 acre park is a popular venue for relaxation, reading, boat-docking and concerts. The main entrance is on Lake Street and marked by natural stone posts, with stone steps descending to the park and lake.
