Regional Photographers
The Smithy Pioneer Gallery
DATE: Thursday, June 30th
TIME: 5 – 7 PM
LOCATION: 55 Pioneer St., Cooperstown

The Smithy is delighted to announce the opening of its next show which features fifteen of the finest photographers in upstate New York, including Sven Anderson, Charlie Bremer, Stewart Cairns, Neil Chowdhury, Andy Daddio, Nancy Ford, Kevin Gray, Drew Harty, Aaron Hobson, Juliette Lynch, Dave Polley, Michael Forster Rothbart, Carl Rubino, Bruce Strong, and Richard Walker.

Co-curated by photographer Michael Forster Rothbart and Smithy Executive Director Danielle Newell, the title of the show, Statement, describes its concept quite literally. Those nominated and invited to participate in the show were asked to distill their personal artistic statement- their inspirations and objectives as artists- into its most basic form. The works selected for the exhibit are those which best represent these statements. With a wide range of photographic styles and methods, the first floor will feature work with a rural or "old fashioned" sensibility, while the third floor will display more modern and
avant-garde subject matter.
The second floor of The Smithy, the "Member Artist Gallery", will also exhibit work that is representative of the artists’ statements, although the members work predominantly in the paint, acrylic, and collage media. One photographer member, Mother Elisabeth Czwikla, will be featured in the solo show room. Her work is a close study of nature that
has captivated patrons for years.

The opening reception on June 30th will also feature musical performances from cellist David Gibson, a teacher, performer, and graduate of Juilliard. In the courtyard, local artist Sugwon Kang will be drawing portraits for patrons for a small fee. Of course, wine and beer, courtesy of Brewery Ommegang, will flow freely and delicious food will be on hand. It is an evening of artistry not to be missed!
