Dear Friends,
Otsego 2000 is encouraged that the DEC in its June 30 press release appears to be addressing some of the serious inadequacies of the 2009 draft SGEIS on oil and gas mining. While the press release states that the DEC will complete additional studies, submit a complete draft for public comment, and adopt regulations before high volume hydraulic fracturing will be commenced in New York State, Otsego 2000 remains concerned that the press release does not refer to a full cumulative impacts study, does not provide for equal protection for all watersheds throughout the State, and omits significant matters of critical importance to our community. We will await the release of the revised draft to further comment on these omissions, but it is clear that much work remains to be done. This will require the sustained efforts and vigilance of our many statewide and local coalitions and grassroots activists, as well as help from local legislators.

We are grateful for your continued support and commitment as we all work to protect our community.
