Organizational Changes at OCCA

July 1, 2011

A letter from Darla M. Youngs, Acting Executive Director, Otsego County Conservation Association

“I just wanted to touch base with you regarding the changes here at OCCA over the past two months. As you may know, Erik Miller has stepped down from his position with OCCA as Executive Director to shepherd the Southern Tier East Regional Planning Development Board.

Effective July 1, I have taken up the reins as Acting Executive Director, and Environmental Planner Tavis Austin will assume water quality programming and planning duties as OCCA begins its search for an executive director.

The succession will not affect current programming. Our summer schedule is set, and it is a busy one. We will also move forward as planned with projects already underway, and I have spent the last month getting up to speed on these with Erik.

With my oversight, Tavis will now be the point person on water chestnut eradication, Goodyear Swamp Sanctuary rehabilitation, the invasives species survey/paddle and the Goodyear Lake access project. I will handle the administrative end of things and take the lead on our other initiatives.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns, or if there are details you would like to discuss regarding specific programs, projects or funding through OCCA.

You probably also have heard that Martha Clarvoe has stepped down as Board President and former Board Secretary Vicky Lentz has assumed leadership of the organization. You may not realize, however, that Martha remains with OCCA as a full-time volunteer, Secretary of the Board and Special Projects Manager. So, despite the role reversal, it is very much business as usual!

As we have for more than four decades, OCCA will continue to address the broad array of environmental concerns that affect our quality of life here. And, under Vicky’s leadership, we are preparing to move forward in the implementation of increased programming throughout Otsego County.

I look forward to working with you more closely. Darla.  ”
