Local Teens Sharing Their Love of Books with Young Readers

CANAJOHARIE, NY— Toddlers and Elementary age kids are in for a special treat this summer with our brand new Book Buddies Program. The first of this series of four Story Times run by the library’s teen Volunteers is on July 14, 2011.

The Book Buddies program is an opportunity for local teens to give back to the community and offer a valuable service to the library. “Each of the four dedicated Book Buddy Teen Volunteers has undergone a comprehensive Story Time training” says Librarian Leah LaFera “We have a wonderful group of teen volunteers this summer who are eager to share their enthusiasm for books and reading with children.”

Each Book Buddies program features Teen Volunteer’s reading fun, interactive stories with children toddler-elementary age. The program kicks off on July 14, at 11:00am with Rachael, a local drama student who recently performed in a student production at Proctor’s theater in Schenectady. On July 18 at 2:00pm join Alyssa, a long time library teen volunteer for some of her favorite stories. On July 20 at 10:00am Abby will be sharing her love of reading, and we are finishing up the series on July 25 at 2:00pm with recent Canajoharie graduate Veronica.

Registration is required to attend one of these special Book Buddies programs so be sure to call and sign-up your family today 518-673-2314.
