July 30th also marks the date of "Forging a Future for the Arts", The Smithy’s first and soon-to-be annual fundraiser. It is a live auction (which opens as a silent auction on July 21st) that will feature art, antiques, and experiences up for bid.

That’s a lot to keep track of so, timing-wise, July 30th events are as follows:

5 PM, Wine Reception
6 PM, Live Auction
6:30 PM, Dinner Available for Purchase
7 PM, Patti Van Tassel & Dan Soccorso Perform Live!

Baye Kouyate Baye Kouyate… "lightning-fast talking drums… infectious and enchanting"
Baye Kouyatè is among a very select group of independent musicians named as a Finalist in the 8th Annual Independent Music Awards in two categories that were judged by artists such as Peter Gabriel. A West African poet, praise singer, and wandering musician, Baye is a "Griot", a repository of oral tradition who perserves ancient stories and traditions through song. His performances are a journey through a world of highly complex polyrhythms fusing traditional sounds of Mali with influences such as jazz, reggae, and latin grooves, all delivered by a high spirited crew of musicians. A PERCUSSION WORKSHOP will be held at 4pm, Concert at 7pm. Workshop is $12 Adults; $8 Students and Seniors. Concert tickets are same price. You can do a combination concert & workshop for $20.00 Adults, $12 Students/Seniors.
Babik Babik… "jaw-dropping virtuosity, with a toe-tapping danceability"
Babik (pronounced Bah-Beek) is a progressive Gypsy Jazz band inspired by the legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt.
Since forming in 2005, Babik has enjoyed both commercial and artistic success. In 2008, Babik worked with arranger Brent Havens (creator of orchestral programs of Queen, Led Zeppelin, The Doors) to create the first ever orchestral program of the music of Django Reinhardt. This collaboration has been enthusiastically received by every audience to hear it. Their latest release, "American Gypsy", showcases ten original compositions and three standards that both honor the roots of Gypsy Jazz while exploring a wide range of styles such as Jazz-fusion, Klezmer, World and Latin Music. The result is an amazingly coherent, expansive, and ambitious vision of Gypsy Jazz that will excite jazz and music lovers alike. Tickets are $12 Adults and $7.00 Students/Seniors.
Peter Hedlund Peter Hedlund… "masterful and brilliant nyckelharpa playing firmly rooted in tradition"
Peter Hedlund is considered Sweden’s leading traditional player of the modern chromatic nyckelharpa, having won the title "World Champion" twice in 1992 and 2000. He earned the designation "Riksspelman"- Fiddler of the Realm- while still in his teens (1975). His music is a powerful example of continuation, an unbroked thread linking past, present and future. In 2010, Hedlund received Sweden’s most prestigious award recognizing distinction and excellence in folk music, the Zorn Gold Medal. Tickets are $12 Adults and $7.00 Students/Seniors.
