My Nanking Home 1918-1937 Author Reading

CANAJOHARIE, NY—The Canajoharie Library is proud to present a reading by local Cherry Valley author Nancy Thomson Waller from her memoir My Nanking Home about growing up in China. The reading will take place at the Canajoharie Library on Friday, July 15, 3:00pm.

Nancy Thomson Waller, daughter of educational missionaries, was born in Nanking, China in 1918—a time of great turmoil. From the South to the North, warlords were being overthrown by Chiang Kai-shek’s Nationalist Army. Amid daily routines, family expeditions, and terrifying moments such as the Looting of 1927, the Thomson family witnessed Nanking’s transformation from a sleepy, medieval city to a modern, bustling capital. My Nanking Homeis a very personal memoir recounting a happy childhood in a faraway land. This is a fascinating collection of stories including one about growing up next door to the author Pearl S. Buck. It is a journey back to another time, another world.

This program is free and open to the public. Copies of the book are available for purchase with a signing afterward.

The Canajoharie Library is located at 2 Erie Blvd., Canajoharie, NY. For additional information contact the library at 518-673-2314 or go visit us online at http://www.canajoharielibrary.org.
