(COOPERSTOWN, NY) Brewery Ommegang announces the inaugural Ommegang Americana Festival on Friday, August 5th, 2011 in Cooperstown, New York! Attendees can expect a night filled with classic Amerciana musicians honoring the traditions of American roots music, along with local eats and traditional Belgian-style ales.

Americana, much like America, is a musical melting pot celebrated through bluegrass, folk, big band, jazz, blues, country, and rock. Legendary rocker Steve Earle became an integral part of this world when he started making music in 1975 and has maintained that position throughout his career. At age 19, Steve made his way to Nashville and met Townes Van Zandt, who inspired him to make music his career. Since then he has recorded 14 studio albums, shared the stage with multiple talented performers, and won three Grammy Awards, most recently in 2010for Best Contemporary Folk/Americana Album for “Townes”. He is currently traveling with the electric live band The Dukes and Duchesses featuring singer-songwriter Allison Moorer, who is his wife.

Upstate New York natives, The Felice Brothers, will also play at the Americana Festival at Brewery Ommegang. They are described as a close-knit band of two brothers and three longtime friends, all in their twenties, with a knack for folk music. These self-taught musicians are recognized by fans for their primitive drum beats, heavy bass lines, and unforgettable live performances. Ommegang was happy to host them last summer and is looking forward to their return.

Langhorne Slim is the most recent addition to the already powerful list of musicians playing at the festival. Although most commonly described as a folk artist, Langhorne’s strong vocals and gut-wrenching lyrics add a complexity to his music that leaves listeners yearning for more. The band has headlined over 150 shows, played various major festivals, and recently worked with musical greats like Sufjan Stevens, The Avett Brothers, and R.E.M.

Gates and beer sales open at 5 pm, selling both Ommegang and Duvel USA beers, leaving time for campers to set up their tents and relax before the music starts at 6 pm. Tickets for the festival cost $40.00 in advance (inclusive of camping privileges) and are on sale now. Come enjoy an evening filled with surprises and great Belgian-style beer, as some of America’s most-treasured musicians play under the stars at Ommegang’s farmstead brewery.

Tickets are also available at Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce, 31 Chestnut Street, Cooperstown, NY for $40 + $5 service fee. Tickets are also available online through the Chamber Website at Chamber hours are Monday through Thursday, 9am-6pm; Friday and Saturday, 9am-7pm, Sunday, 9am-5pm.
