The A N N U A L Z A N Y Z U C C H I N I F E S T I V A L , Saturday, August 6th at the Cooperstown Farmers’ Market coincides with the ‘Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor’s Porch’ holiday. This holiday was established by Pennsylvanian Tom Roy, as a day to encourage sharing. Tom challenged his neighbors to action, "Due to the overzealous planting of zucchini, citizens are asked to drop off baskets of the squash on neighbors’ doorsteps." Thanks to a very generous donation of zucchini seeds from the Harris Seed Company which were distributed throughout Otsego County this spring, we may experience more than the usual number of zucchini ourselves this season. The humble but nutritious Zucchini is low in saturated fat, and very low in cholesterol and sodium. It is also a good source of Thiamin, Niacin and Pantothenic Acid, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Folate, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Zinc, Copper and Manganese. Give your neighbors the gift of good health – leave some zucchini on their porch this week as Tom suggests.

And celebrate the region’s bounty at the Cooperstown Farmers’ Market. There will be a Huge ZUCCHINI Flower Arrangement , tasty samples of everything ZUCCHINI, and live music by ‘Some Form of Gypsies’ P L U S a fabulous, free, face-painter for the youngsters.

Z U C C H I N I G R O W E R S C O N T E S T , weigh-in from 9:00-1:30. This year $25 market gift certificates for winners of Largest and Smallest Zucchinis in both junior and senior classes. Bring your Zucchini! Do not have to be present to WIN.
