American String Quartet performs Monday at the Otesaga

August 12, 2011

The Cooperstown Summer Music Festival continues with a 7:30 pm concert at the Otesaga Hotel with the American String Quartet. Critics and audiences alike hail the American String Quartet for its “almost magical warmth.” The Quartet just performed at the Aspen Summer Music Festival, and earlier this summer had a residency at China’s Great Wall International Music Academy.

Festival artistic director Linda Chesis says, “I have been inviting them every year since I started the Festival, and finally we found a date that worked.” Ms. Chesis will perform Ries’s Flute Quartet from Op. 145 with the American String Quartet, who also will perform Haydn’s Quartet in G Major and Ravel’s String Quartet in F Major.

The members of the American String Quartet are: Peter Winograd, violin; Laurie Carney, violin; Daniel Avshalomov, viola; and Wolfram Koessel, cello.

Tickets, which are $25 for adults and $15 for students, can be purchased online, www.cooperstownmusicfest.org, by phone through Brown Paper Tickets, 800/838-3006, and at the door, beginning 45 minutes before the concert.

The concert will be held in the elegant ballroom of the Otesaga Hotel, 60 Lake Street, Cooperstown.
