THE AVETT BROTHERS are a band made up of five people, two of which are brothers (Scott and Seth Avett), and are originally from North Carolina. The folk rock band plays with banjos, guitars, Bob Crawford on the stand-up bass, Joe Kwon on the cello, and Jacob Edwards on the drums. The San Francisco Chronicle describes their sounds as “the heavy sadness of Townes Van Zandt, the light pop concision of Buddy Holly, the tuneful jangle of the Beatles, and the raw energy of the Ramones.” The band released their first full length album “Country Was” in 2002 and have released their latest album “I and Love and You” in 2009. I and Love and You peaked at #16 on the Billboard 200 best-selling albums, #7 in rock albums, and #1 in folk albums. The Avett Brothers appeared on the 53rd Grammy Awards in 2011, playing "Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise" before joining Mumford and Sons and Bob Dylan for a performance of "Maggie’s Farm”. They also won the Americana Music association Duo/Group of the year award in 2010 and are nominated for it again in 2011. In early 2011 the band returned to the studio to begin working on the follow-up to I and Love and You, with a release expected in early 2012. (Photo Credit Below: Maria Egan)
